Family Engagement
Encourage families to join children's learning process.
- Invite families to see the children's artwork at the end of the theme, (see Our Art Show, Related Activities). Plan to invite families ahead of time so they have plenty of notice about the event.
- Are any of the children's family members artists? Incorporate their artwork into the theme.
- Talk with families about ways they incorporate the arts into their life at home. Some families might enjoy the performing arts and go to plays, others might enjoy visiting a local museum, and some might simply enjoy painting or drawing together at home. Try to make these family-childcare connections throughout the theme.
Greeting/Welcome Welcome children with unique greetings each day.
- Offer each child a stamp on their hand as they arrive.
- Set out playdough for the children to use upon arrival.
- Offer stencils, paper, and crayons to the children to explore while they wait for all their friends to arrive.
- Work on scissor cutting skills by snipping paper with each child as they come into the room and get settled.
Daily Review Review concepts or recall children's favorite activities.
- Review the heart shape and color white on the Color and Shape Display (see Resources).
- Review art concepts with the Look! book.
- Encourage children to share their favorite way to create art. What is their least favorite way?
