You Will Need:

Reread the Theme 2 Book. As you read, challenge children to answer the questions before turning the page and reading the answers. Are they starting to retain information from the story?

When you've finished, turn to the page featuring the seaplane. Unlike the other machines featured in the book, the seaplane is the only one that can travel on land and water. This type of machine is described as "amphibious" because it can travel in two different ways. Have children say the word "amphibious." It's a challenging word to say! Most seaplanes only take off and land on water and are not equipped with wheels.

If you didn't share a video of a seaplane at work during Storytime: Machines in Action (see Related Activities), share one today so children can see what it looks moving in both air and water. The Things That Go TV! channel on YouTube Kids features a seaplane in one of its videos here. Screen first.

Extend: Seaplanes aren't the only amphibious machines. There are many vehicles with this feature. Share the "Amphibious Transport" song by Twenty Trucks on YouTube Kids to see a vehicle that is both truck and boat! Screen first.
