You Will Need: - file folder OR paper
- cookie cutters
- marker
- resealable bag
Create a simple file folder matching game for children to use in the math area. Open a blank file folder and lay it flat on a tabletop. If you do not have a file folder, use a sheet of paper. Spread several cookie cutter shapes over the open file folder. Trace around each cookie cutter with a marker. Place the cookie cutters in a resealable bag and set them next to the folder.
Challenge children to match the cookie cutters with the outlines on the file folder. They can work individually or take turns matching as a group. This is a great activity to offer for children who are waiting for a new activity to start!
Extend: Invite children to trace around the cookie cutters on paper and color the outlines they create.
Transition: Challenge each child to think of one or two great things that have happened today before introducing the group to a new activity.
