Resources: Nursery Rhyme: Humpty Dumpty

You Will Need:

Print the Humpty Dumpty Story Prop (see Resources). Carefully cut apart the three scenes and stack them in order. Show one picture at a time as you share the rhyme. Repeat several times and encourage them to join in as they are able.

Infants

Securely hold the child and balance her on your knees as you say the rhyme. On the words "had a great fall," separate your knees and slightly lower the child. Then return her to your knees an gently sway together as you finish the rhyme.

Older Toddlers

After sharing the rhyme several times, encourage the children to help you arrange the pictures in order. Talk with them about what happened first, next, and last. See if any of them have ideas about how to fix Humpty Dumpty. For example, they may suggest a bandage, glue, or tape.

Tip: Celebrating Easter
Consider the feelings of the children's families as you decide whether or not to celebrate Easter and how. Do all of them celebrate the holiday? Do the families have egg hunts and bunnies, religious ceremonies, or both? Choose activities that work for all the families in your group.
